What is a Biokineticist?

A Biokineticist is a healthcare professional, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as well as the Biokinetics Association of South Africa (BASA). The primary roles of a Biokineticist are to improve your physical abilities and quality of life through exercise and movement.

A Biokineticist will perform a full physical and functional assessment and then prescribe a scientifically-based exercise programme based on the results of your initial consultation. These customized programmes are designed according to the specific needs of the individual.

The assessment can include:

  • Anthropometric measurements/ Body Composition
  • Posture analysis
  • Cardiovascular function
  • Muscle weakness and imbalances
  • Flexibility, proprioception and balance testing
  • Functional testing

These assessments can be performed on a regular basis in order to monitor the progress of the individual and also allow the training programme to be adjusted if necessary.
